TP 19. THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

The second paragraph of the first article of the Declaration of Independence carries the phrase: the pursuit of happiness. These 4 words were written by our Founding Fathers (the Declaration Daddies), and was a modified version from a 17th century philosopher’s quote. It was installed to promote commerce and manufacturing as all Americans try and outdo their neighbors. Timed perfectly at the start of the Industrial Revolution, this mad dash for obtaining materialistic crap and adorning our bodies with bling and fashion, turned into the operating premise of America. We equip our egos with 5 figure modes of transportation and 6 figure housing while we’re constantly trying to: “keep up with the Jones.” These numbers have now respectfully inflated to 6 and 7 figure digits. Although the GNP has increased significantly, many marriages have failed pursuing this happiness. In its wake is a number of dead bodies that physically failed or were murdered by others who felt that they weren’t moving fast enough. Some families were fragmented because certain members achieved too much happiness that created jealousy, and others had members that could never attain happiness, regardless of cost. The Declaration of Independence needs to be modified to read: We are endowed with certain unalienable rights: to access only necessary medical care, to be offered affordable housing and food and, lastly, the pursuit of being left alone and not to be bothered by people attempting to make us happy with extended warranties.
