In a rural community of nearly 600, lived a couple named Ma and PA Hearst. They had purchased a used house of 1950’s vintage in the 1990’s and spent the last 3 decades customizing their abode to their own specifications. It was a decade before Pa discovered the purpose of an unknown 3-way switch located in their attached garage. For those unfamiliar with electrical switches, 3 or 4-way switches are used wherever you want to turn a light on or off from multiple locations. It seems that Pa’s house had an addition put on before he moved in. Prior to that, there was an outdoor exit on the west end of the house that had an outside fixture to light up the stairs at that exit. The original design put a second switch in the garage so the occupant could exit out that doorway, light their way to the garage, and then be able to turn it off or on from there. Well, somewhere in the past, a 4 seasons room was added, and the outside light was now used as the room light with the original switch at the room’s entrance. By shear chance, the 3-way switch lit the room in the up position and turned it off in the down position, and all was good. Now, fast forward a few decades, and some stranger delivering an appliance went looking for a switch to turn on the garage lights to see. Finding a bank of switches, he hit them all. This activated the ghost that secretly controlled that light in the 4 season room. Now up is off and down is on. This upset Ma Hearst to no end as she envisioned that someone came into her house and spun the light switch around. When Pa took the time to uncover the mystery by looking at all the incidents that occurred that week, he concluded that the delivery guy inadvertently hit the switch but said nothing to Ma. Just to add comedy to his life, he occasionally summons the ghost and flips the switch just to scare Ma. If Ma H. ever read this notice; the ghost flipper would leave the premises and murdered Pa’s ghost will now haunt it.
