TP. 130 FREE SAMPLES

With a little daub of artistic license and a smattering of historical freedom, you could say that the very first free samples were multiple body parts of a partially devoured caveman left on the ground for another dinosaur to eat. If you remember the cartoon: THE FLINTSTONES, then you would think that the 2 species coexisted, but they did not. However, their descendants, Birds and Homo Sapiens, do. One of the first modern examples of free samples in America took place in Batavia, Illinois by the chemical company, Campana. A cosmetic and hand balm manufacturer that fired up in 1927, and then built a state of the art structure in the middle of the Great Depression in 1936. A sleek, Streamline Moderne, Bauhous, and Art Deco structure with central air conditioning and a gravity fed water tank in the 100′ tall tower for fire suppression set this building apart from all others. The reason for its success in a turbulent time of tumbling empires was that the company’s owner mailed free samples of his products out to potential customers. The company also sponsored an entertainment radio program that heavily advertised their products. Guess what? With the vast majority of human beings, these tactics work. The next thing that is needed is to convince Ford, General Motors, and Ram to distribute free samples of their pickup trucks to all the working class grunts. You don’t even have to deliver them. We’ll go over and pick ’em up at the factory. No charge. Just look at all the money they’ll make on selling us accessories.
