A fringe benefit of certain careers is extended time off due to the nature of the business you are in. Examples are: 1. a road paving industry in cold climates where the company shuts down operations due to weather. In the Northern Hemisphere (N.H.), it is December thru March and in the Southern Hemisphere (S.H.), it’s June thru September. 2. Certain manufacturers that retool for new products shut down for an extended period that coincides with production demands such as the transportation industry. 3. The largest group of people who take off for 3 months are the teachers, who figured out that their time off should be in the summer months of their respective Hemispheres; and they get paid for their absence during their time off. Smart people. The rest of us have to dredge through the year performing our specialized skill so that the rest of humanity doesn’t suffer or stink, such as in the medical profession or the undertaker industry. What I propose is that all working people get 3 months off every year regardless of their careers. This could happen if shifts rotated every month for the start of someone’s 3 month hiatus so that someone is always manning the helm. After putting in 9 months at their trade, they then embark on a 3 month holiday to wherever. If their starting point is the month of December in the N.H. and they don’t get into winter activities like skiing, merely ship them down to the S.H. and let them enjoy warmer weather. If you encounter hungry people who want to work all the time, you could sell a month of your work time to them and take off another month. This will make for a happier workforce that is under much less stress. After all, you don’t see too many teachers shooting up the students, do you? This idea makes so much sense that you need to disappear for 12 weeks. Adios, goodbye, and see ya.
