TP. 157 MENOMONEE RIVER

At the intersection of the very northeast corner of Wisconsin and the south central tongue of the Upper Michigan Peninsula, lies 2 cities of which Marinette resides in Wisconsin and Menomonee calls Michigan home. The dividing line between the 2 states for the next 116 miles is the scenic and tamed Menomonee River, with 5 installed dams from the 1920’s holding back a 588′ drop from inception to terminus. That’s 3 Niagara Falls in total. There are roads in both states that occasionally touch the banks of this scenic snake of a lake (river) but the Michigan side is more rustic as it is paved in good old mining gold (gravel). Along the way are multiple water falls that generate some white water rapids and some hydroelectric dams that generate white water electricity. Near the dams are underwater urban fish cities that attract the anglers looking for a good fight. Camping spots permeate the shorelines and beauty fills the uninhabited voids. About halfway up is the 4 Seasons Island Resort that brings civility and fine dining to the Northwoods. Located on a large oxbow bend of the river and situated completely on an island with a golf course, the old, massive structure is right up there with the likes of the Stanley Hotel, located in the pristine Estes Park of Colorado. That hotel was the backdrop in the Stanley Kubrick’s thriller: THE SHINING. Wisconsin has had its fair share of pyscho murderers in the past, so hopefully some nut case can dissect unwitting humans in the near future and put the 4 Season’s architectural masterpiece back on the murder map. Humans love a great, gruesome ghost mystery. It’s a fantastic way for a man to get his 10th hole from his significant other, after 9 holes of boring golf.
