In the world of literature, much descriptive detail is dispensed in trying to get the reader to envision what a writer’s character looks like. Mountains of metaphors along with stockpiles of synonyms, endless euphemisms, acres of alliterations, current colloquialisms, unjust juxtapositions, and an absolute army of adjectives abound. The principle here is to paint a portrait in the reader’s head so that they know exactly what these bohemians look like. The usual procedure is to illustrate the bizarre, distorted, or caricaturist facial features of the subject along with any disabilities they exhibit. All this accomplishes is a snapshot of where they are in time. The human face and physique are continually morphing as one gets older and does little to chronicle the experiences of a person. The shoe, on the other hand, has been reasonably stable in size since becoming a young adult and will remain so as they walk their owners into death. The shoes have carried this unique individual through a lifetime of love and despair, joy and heartbreak, victories and disasters, hopes and failures. They have created a creature completely chiseled out of the situations that they have walked into and out of. An author’s use of attaching their character’s shoe size is a tool for reaching into the memories of their audience and letting them reflect on the journeys they themselves, or friends with foreign feet, have taken. An 8 EE carries a warehouse worth of experiences different from a 5 1/2 C. So, when writing literature, an author can now use this very effective method of detailing the combined history of the character in question, without burning up page after page of inked intelligence to arrive at the same conclusion. A lesson in composition efficiency that will influence a reader to readily pick up a 99-page novel, chiseled down from 300. The introduction of the 25th literary device to attain a condensed commentary is known simply as SHOEPERCHARGING.
